Welcome to mobieltjes-museum.nl
This website was originally started in 2012 by Adri Bimmel. He had been collecting old mobile phones as a hobby for years and had collected hundreds of devices. He wanted to show his collection and share his knowledge about this subject via mobieltjes-museum.nl.
In 2021 he decided to stop this hobby and I took over his entire collection, including this website. My own collection already consisted of a few thousand mobile phones.
At the end of 2024 there will be a new, large donation from Vodafone. Since the start of the network (in 1995) they have kept a copy of almost all devices sold in the Netherlands in their lab. Many of these GSM (2G) and UMTS (3G) devices no longer work because the battery has failed. These devices are now donated to mobieltjes-museum.nl.
As soon as this donation has been received, an inventory of the entire collection will be made. All devices will then be: registered, photographed and provided with an ID number. When this work is done, the database of this website will be updated.
After that I will further expand the historical articles with the knowledge I have.
Until then:
– do you have old devices that you want to donate?
– do you want to borrow a device to use in a film, TV broadcast, presentation, etc.?
– are you looking for someone who is enthusiastic about telling a story in the media about mobile telephony?
Then send an e-mail to info [at] mobieltjes-museum [dot] nl
In most cases you will receive an answer within 1-2 days.
